Let’s talk about money; Tuesday 28 June 2011
Peter Blake of PB Coaching and Training held an accountancy workshop. The talk was in two halves. The first part was a simple guide to the basics of being self-employed including a working knowledge of accounts, bookkeeping, taxation and national insurance putting us right on what you can and cannot claim for. As most therapists are small businesses this was very useful. The second part of the workshop had us all discussing our beliefs about money and by talking them through realising how some beliefs hold us back e.g. being embarrassed talking money, or phrases such as 'money is the root of all evil'. We were put into pairs to carry out role play of client and counsellor to discover which beliefs we wish to remove and work out how to remove them. Very interesting, thought provoking and not at all easy to do! Thanks to Peter for a very informative and enjoyable session. 15th June 2010:
Ayurvedic Nutrition & Lifestyle
This talk was very well attended, the subject matter of the talk obviously stirring some curiosity amongst local people and therapists. Caroline started off by giving a brief history of Ayurvedic Medicine and its roots in Indian Culture. We then all joined in with some deep abdominal breathing exercises as she explained how breathing properly can help us cope with stressful situations. She then ran through what would be a typical day using the ayurvedic principles, e.g. after showering using an oil (she mentioned sesame oil) on your skin, deep breathing exercises, make some ginger tea to sip throughout the day and then what you eat would depend on what type or "dosha" you are (but that would be a completely separate matter for a talk another time.
Caroline brought an array of different spices for us to smell. She then had a group of people sitting on the floor grinding combinations of spices together with a pestle and mortar and asking them to breath in the smells and asking them how it made them feel.
It was a very interesting talk and one that could be the start of future talks on other aspects of Ayurveda.
